Make the connection

*MAKE THE CONNECTION ~ PASTOR CHRIS OYAKHILOME*

Hebrews 13:5-6 “Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we may boldly say: “The LORD is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?””

“I still feel the pain in my leg,” Della said to her cell leader just after the cell meeting.

“Della, we just finished listening to Pastor’s message on healing. You should be confessing your healing instead of complaining. That’s how to respond to God’s word the right way.”

Like Della, many people don’t respond the right way to the Word, thereby making it ineffective. Jesus scolded the Jews about this in Mark 7:13 NIV: “ …You nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And you do many things like that.” Can you imagine nullifying the Word of God, which created the universe? Sadly, that’s the way it is in the lives of many. The Word doesn’t work in their lives because they don’t connect with it. They hold on to their traditions—their way of doing things—against the Word.

Each time you study or hear the Word preached and taught, connect with it with the right attitude. Respond to the Word. This doesn’t mean just memorising and reciting the Word; no! God didn’t give us His Word just so you can quote it! He gave us His Word to use and to live by. There has to be a response from you; if there’s no response, the Word returns without actions, and it’s unprofitable to you. How do you respond to the Word? The answer is in our opening scripture: you boldly say what God has said! He gave you His Word so that you may boldly respond to it, and your response must be consistent with what He said. For example, He has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you”; that means you’ll never lack anything, be afraid of anything or anybody because the Lord is with you.

Therefore, no matter what happens, you’ll always win. Now, you connect with that Word by responding accordingly; you say, “The Lord is my helper, and I shall not fear what man shall do unto me.” When you speak God’s Word in agreement with Him, you’re responding correctly. This is how you connect with the Word and make it effective in your life.

Recreating your world

Your situation is not unique. Give attention to God's word. You are transformed not by struggling or hustling. You are transformed through the renewing of your mind. Remember that nothing is final. Everything can and will change. You are a shining example of God's goodness and love. If you find yourself constantly trying to prove your worth to someone, you have already forgotten your value. There's more to you than meets the eyes. Refuse to live beneath your potential. Take off the limiting belief that has taken root in your mind. Learn to cultivate possibility thinking. Don't put yourself in a box because of a situation or someone. Nothing limits accomplishment like small thinking and nothing expands possibilities like thinking outside of the box. The possibilities in your life change when your perspective changes.

Tame the tongue

*LEARN TO TAME YOUR TONGUE ~ PASTOR CHRIS OYAKHILOME* Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles! James 3:5 Learning to tame your tongue is very important. The tongue, as small as it is, can do the greatest good or harm depending on how you use it. While some have sadly talked themselves into trouble with their tongues, others have used theirs to chart their way to victory. Learn to use your tongue right by only speaking wholesome and blessed words. Fellowship with the Word regularly through your Rhapsody of Realities for Early Readers for then, you’ll find that your words will “..be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one (Colossians 4:6).
